These are official Sony steps for updating your PlayStation Consoles
PlayStation consoles feature updatable software, including the operating system as well as many games, and apps. At times, the system software updates may also update the system's firmware, enhancing your system's security and stability.
System updates help improve your experience with the addition of new features as well as improving existing features.
How do I update my PlayStation 4 system?
Select Settings > System Software Update to make sure your system has the latest version of the system software
If there is an updated file for a later version, it automatically downloads. You can continue to use your system while downloading
When downloading is complete, a pop-up notification appears in the upper left corner of the screen
Select the notification under Notifications while viewing the function area, select the appropriate item from Downloads, and then follow the on-screen instructions to perform the installation
Important Note:
Do not turn off your PS4β’ system during the installation. Interrupting the installation could damage your system.
Update files might also be included on game discs. When you play a disc that contains a more recent version of the system software, a screen will be displayed to guide you through the update process. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform the update.
How do I update my PlayStation 5 system?
If the system software update on your PS5 console is stuck, restart the update. If that fails download the updated file from the Official PlayStation website.
Using a PC or Mac, create a folder named PS5 on a USB drive formatted as FAT32. Inside that folder, create another folder named UPDATE
Download the update file (which can be found here) and save it in the UPDATE folder. Save the file as PS5UPDATE.PUP
Plug the USB drive containing the file into your PS5 console
Start the PS5 console in Safe Mode: press and hold the power button, releasing after the second beep
Select Safe Mode option 3: Update System Software
Select Update from USB Storage Device > OK
If your PS5 console does not recognise the file, check that the folder names and file names are correct. Enter the folder names and file names using uppercase letters.
