Like most things, your Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED will need updating every now and then. Having your Switch consoles updated to the latest versions will prepare your consoles for updates for your game software as well as adding new features, providing better stability and fixing any bugs!

From the HOME Menu, select System Settings
Scroll down the options on the left and select System
On the right-hand side select System Update
During the process, the system will first perform a check to determine if a new system update is available
The download process will begin automatically if an update is available!
How do I update my Nintendo Switch games?
For automatic installation:
From the HOME Menu, select System Settings
Scroll down the options on the left and select System
On the right-hand side select Automatic Software Updates and make sure they are switched On
With Automatic Software Updates switched on, updates to installed software will be downloaded automatically while the Nintendo Switch system is connected to the internet.
For manual installation:
Ensure the Nintendo Switch console is connected to the Internet
From the HOME Menu, select the icon for the game or software you wish to update without starting the game or application. To do this you will select the icon and press the '+' button. With Automatic Software Updates switched on, updates to installed software will be downloaded automatically while the Nintendo Switch system is connected to the internet.
Scroll down the options on the left and select Software Update
On the right-hand side select Via the Internet
Your system will then search for the latest update for your games or software - please follow the instructions provided hereafter. If your game software is already up to date, your console will tell you so.
